SIX

The musical SIX deviates itself from traditional musicals by telling the narrative through a concert-like experience. The show highlights Henry the VIII six wives and gives them a voice to share their individual stories so that they can reclaim their stories. Considering the modern inspiration from the show, I thought it would be best to showcase these historical figures in an early 2000s pop star/girl group world, where the audience can feel the power that comes from these female voices. I’ve pulled inspiration from various early 2000s pop star/celebrity icons from that time (Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Rihanna, Britney Spears, etc.). As well as implementing some 16th-century fashion elements through bedazzling and jewelry. Overall, the elements of jewelry, bedazzling, and denim are what unifies the six wives, while having their costumes differ from each other in order to showcase their individuality. The focus of this project is to mix together historical and modern elements into a cohesive design.
